Frank McCarty (1941-)
Unlike most composers, I have no single style or aesthetic. My work extends from simple and tonal to the wildly experimental. Writing only for commission, request or occasion, I have attempted to approach each musical task from within its own premise and idiomatic context. My basic craft has always been to compose within the different boundaries prescribed by each new project. I also avoid self imitation and only rarely carry techniques from piece to piece. Consequently, every one of my works could have been written by a different composer, in a different time and place. Yet, they were all produced by one composer, one intentionally wearing different costumes. By now I have produced around one hundred works, not one of which sounds like Frank McCarty.
